Deal Breakers – Review
Another amazing book! I’m on a roll!
This was such a cute book!
Devyn and Riley did not know what hit them when they met freshman year of college!
“Okay, here’s the thing. I’m a virgin. And you need to relieve me of that.”
^^^^^ This sentence from Devyn is what truly set the whole entire store in motion. After that is said, the story takes a turn for the awesome, and I found it really hard to put the book down.
So the book starts out a little weird. It’s freshman year and Riley sees this girl that he has decided he must have. They meet after he mischievously locks his bike to hers in the bike rack. Up front, she tells him that she is not looking for a relationship and can only be friends. Thinking like any normal male would, he agrees and hopes that he can convince her to go on a date with him.
That’s the first chapter. The second chapter jumps into sophomore year of college. Then the third chapter is junior year of college. And the fourth chapter starts of with a bang of Devyn wanting to Riley to take her virginity because she wants to get it out of the way before she moves onto the real world. I think this is really where the book began. I didn’t like how it jumped so quickly with the first three chapters, but with what happens next, I totally get it!
Riley agrees and wants to wine and dine her to give her the best experience ever. AS FRIENDS. Devyn still does not want anything more. He takes her to her favorite place, The Heathman, (in Portland) because she loves Ana and Christian (50 Shades of Grey). They have an amazing time before heading for drinks on the top of their hotel. Sparks fly, they can’t wait any longer and they go downstairs into their room.
Riley is stunned with Devyn’s body and treats her better than he has treated anyone else in the entire world. They share one night of uncontrollable passion and Riley knows he’s hooked.
However, they both graduate college and part ways. Just like they knew they would. Except Riley doesn’t know how to treat Devyn now that they have had sex. She was always one of the guys before, but now? It’s wayyy different. So when she calls, he doesn’t answer.
Six weeks later, something is happening on Devyn’s side of the world and she calls Riley to tell him. Well, Riley’s phone is answered by a drunk girl. Whom Riley was not out with. Devyn assumes the worst and calls the whole thing off.
The story jumps to five years later. Riley is done with graduate school and moves from Boston to take a job in Seattle. Where Devyn was in Portland with her job. He wanted to win her over, once and for all. It would be a small commute from Seattle to Portland so he takes the job. One of his grad-school buddies makes the move with him and they meet a guy named Drew.
Drew is Devyn’s brother. Upon drinking at the local bar, the guys are waiting on Devyn and her best friend to make an appearance. While waiting, Drew tells of a tale of his sister. Riley has not put things together. Drew’s sister has had an extremely rough five years.
They meet, the story blows up, and…
I cannot say more, I will ruin it!!! Damn spoilers! This is a huge one!
Anyway, bombshell drops. They try to pick up the pieces, and you got yourself another happily ever after. Yesss!
This book tugged all the right heartstrings, in all the right places. It was so cute with just a touch of sexy time scenes. It is such a good friends to lovers romance, one that I have not read in a while.
