Confessions of a Writer Tag

Welcome back! Today, I bring you something different. Most of the tags I do are book related, or bookish awards where I was nominated by another blogger.

Today, I found a writer tag. As you know, from my writing prompts, I’m a writer. <3 Oh yes. So this.

Confessions of a writer

When did you first start writing? Was being a writer something you always wanted to do?

I started writing when I was in second grade. I guess it was a school project, and I wrote about a dinosaur egg. I took the egg home with me and became friends with a dragon. Being a writer isn’t something I always wanted to do; I wanted to be a teacher, and a lawyer, and a stay-at-home mom, and a few other things. I changed my mind so much when I was younger! I remember writing my first actual “book”, when I was camping during a summer when I was 12/13. I still have the book, but it has just stalled. I haven’t looked at it in quite some time.

What genre do you write?

I mostly write romance. There’s some mystery, but it’s nothing thriller or anything. I would say it is more suspense, than anything else.

Can you tell us a little about your current work in progress? When did you start working on this project?

Other than the book I started 10+ years ago, I don’t really have a current work in progress. Lately, I am trying to keep up with my blog, and school. Although, I do write some short stories, mostly from writing prompts though. Those, I do post on the blog.

What was the first piece that you can remember writing? What was it about?

Ha, if I would have looked at all the questions before I started answering… I answered this in the first question. It was about a dinosaur egg, and I took it home to be my friend. I was 8, maybe?

What’s the best part about writing?

To me, the best part about writing is being able to see the story unfold. In your mind, you have pictures of how you want everything to play out. But. When you start writing, it can take an unexpected turn. I was writing a story for a prompt, can’t remember which one, and I thought I had it all figured out. Well, when I took a step back, I realized that it was not what I envisioned at all. In fact, it was better!

What is the worst part about writing?

The worst part of writing is finding inspiration. I am absolutely terrible at just sitting down and writing. I need to be in the mood. Unfortunately, is hardly ever lately. I need that inspiration. Sometimes, it’s a song. Sometimes, it’s from reading. But it’s never consistent.

What’s the name of your favorite character and why? (This can be from another author or your own work. Book crushes are perfectly acceptable here as well.)

You want me to pick one character? Ahh, that is impossible!

How much time a day/week do you get to write? When is the best time for you to write (morning or night)?

Ideally, the best time for me to write is either really early in the morning, or late at night. I have wayyy to many distractions during the day. Also, I don’t get to write nearly as much as I’d love to.

Did you go to college for writing? Or if you haven’t been to college yet, do you plan to?

Loaded question! Ha. No, I’m not going to college for writing, per say. I’m going for English, but I’ll be using my degree for writing and editing.

What bothers you more: spelling errors, punctuation errors or grammar errors?

All three! In a book, a few errors are ok; no one is perfect. But if it constantly has errors, we’re going to have problems.

What is the best writing advice that anyone has given you?

The best writing advice anyone has ever given me would have to be “Write for yourself.” You do your own thing. You be you.

What advice would you give another writer?

You just be you. Don’t try to copy anyone else. Find your own voice, and roll with it. Practice often.

What are your favorite writing sites or blogs that you turn to for help, tips or encouragements?

Honestly, there are none that come to mind right now.

Besides writing, what else do you enjoy doing? What are your hobbies?

Blogging! Duh. 😛 Reading, baking…

What is the best book you have read this year?

I’m scheduling this post for like a month ahead, so who knows what else I will have read by then?

What is the best movie you have seen this year?

Again, it’s too close to the beginning of the year. I have no clue!

What is your favorite book or series of all time?

My favorite book of all time is Kissed By An Angel by Elizabeth Chandler. It is also part of a series, but I have yet to read it. Sad, I know. 🙁

Who is your favorite author?

Ellen Hopkins, Sarah Dessen, James Patterson, Jude Deveraux (her contemporary stuff)…

What are your plans for the rest of the year in terms of your writing?

2016 is barely starting. I hope to write more than I did in 2015!

Where else can we find you online?

Well, here, obviously. Twitter @readsandtreats. Instagram, but I’m hardly on there. There is a whole Interact with me page on my main screen, that contains numerous things. Have at it! <3 Send me friend requests, if you please.

Ellen Hopkins, Sarah Dessen, and James Patterson are a few of the best! It’s funny because the last three books I read were by the three of them. 🙂
