Marriage by Law

Upon reading the Amazon synopsis, I thought this would be an awesome book. It did not disappoint! In the beginning, it was a slow read. Ivory, the woman who is narrating the book, kept flashing back to things that happened six months ago. I love a flashback as much as the next person, but when you only get to the present for half a full chapter, and then you switch? It’s almost like you can’t really figure out why she’s going back. Now, the back story is important and does serve a purpose, I just had a hard time getting through it because it kept changing so often.
After I pushed through the first 75 pages, the story started to pick up. I read almost 300 pages in one sitting, which led me to go to bed around 2 a.m.
Anyway, Ivory and Darius are forced by their parents, into an arranged marriage before he leaves for six months on a business trip. Ivory is supposed to play the “trophy” wife and go to all the functions in his place. She does all that while trying to maintain a friendship with her best friend, Rose. Rose is above awesome, and probably one of my favorite characters.
Fast forward six months, Darius comes home and completely ignores Ivory. He told her that they just need to pretend to be married when they’re out in public and that what happens behind closed doors stays that way. He couldn’t even remember her name, calling her Aluminum, of all things. He is just one of those guys who keeps to himself and ALWAYS has a cell phone attached to his hand. Couple days later, enter in Adrian, who is Darius’s best friend and cousin. He’s the typical childhood friend, who keeps his childish ways even though he’s the CEO of a company. Adrian is very quirky, annoying, yet he’s a character you can’t help but love.
Towards the middle of the book,
Aluminum… I mean, Ivory… and Darius finally start getting along. Even though he has a love/love relationship with his cell phone, he’s starting to warm up to Ivory and even pay attention to her. Shower her with teasingly kind words, and overall, turning into the nice guy. Next comes.. Oh my. How could I forget about James?! James is Ivory’s cheating ex-boyfriend, who coincidentally is Darius’s new business partner. Things spiral out of control between those three, punches get thrown, and Ivory starts to realize she is falling for Darius.
After a while, she is realizing he sort of has feelings for her, even though they are already married. The book ends on a very cute note. A note that as you get further along in the book, you’ll realize you want it, and you’ll hope they get their happily every after. I better stop myself here. I tend to ruin things so I don’t want to say too much.
Check it out and let me know what you think! Have any of you read this before? If so, what did you think?
