Top Ten Tuesday {26}

This weekly meme is brought to you by The Broke and The Bookish. Thanks for hosting!

This week is a freebie topic! So… I took it upon myself to dig through their archives and find a topic that seemed pretty interesting. I found one.

Top Ten Words/Topics That Make Me Not Pick Up a Book

Ok, so, as you know, I am kind of known for reading romance and erotica. I will read YA (Dessen and Hopkins, anyone?), but there is certain YA I won’t read. I’ll read thriller/horror, but again, certain ones I won’t read. So here is my list of words and/or topics that make me not want to pick up a book and read.

However… If someone really recommends the book, I will give it a try.

But here goes:

Aliens — I just find it so unreal. I like my books to be somewhat realistic. I have never been a sci-fi fan. Of any kind… Chris has been into the X-Files recently, and I hear enough in the background. I’d rather not read about it too. šŸ˜‰

Zombies — Same as aliens. It’s just not something I’m interested in. A huge majority of the reason why I haven’t seen The Walking Dead. Everyone raves about it, but I’m not a fan. I just can’t seem to get into it…

Time Travel — This can get so complicated. Of course, I’m a fan of flashbacks, but actual time travel is a no-no. Again, it’s not realistic.

Historical — Ahh! I just can’t get into historical novels. Even in school, I always hated history. And with romance? Dukes and duchess just make me ick. IĀ love romance, but not in the historical context.

Biography/Autobiography — It’s non-fiction. I don’t really read too much, and how much of autobiographies are actually true, even though they say they are? In a previous class, we touched on creative non-fiction.Ā I heard and read that your memories are the way your brain remembers them. It might not actually be true. You remember certain parts of every event that happens, but it is your perception. It is always subjected to change, opinion, and facts. You’d say something happened a certain way, but someone else who was there at the precise moment it happened, could recall it a different way. So right there, you have two stories, neither of which are 100% true.

Dystopia/Fantasy — Many people like them. But having a completely new world created, just for the point of fiction? Maybe that’s why I never got into Harry Potter. (Yes, yes, I know… I see you shaking your head! šŸ˜› ) Or the Hunger Games. Or Divergent. Or anything else. It goes along the same lines of sci-fi.

Pirates — Give me Johnny Depp any day. But don’t make me read about pirates. I can’t stand the way the talk, and after Johnny Depp, no pirate compares to him. Sooo freaking hot.

WHY’S THE RUM GONE?! (click the link. You won’t be sorry!)

why is the rum gone

Vampires/Werewolves — It is so over done. Why, you ask? Because Twilight. Enough said.

I’m curious to know… Are there any words or topics that make you not pick up a book? If so, let me know the comments! Do you agree with any of mine?

  1. I am with you on the zombies! I can handle most supernatural beings, but not zombies – they are just straight up gross.

  2. O_o how are we ‘bookblog friends’? LMFAO! My TTT

    1. Kendra Kendra says:

I read this and burst out in laughter. Haha! šŸ˜€

      1. Well, think about it! Haja

  3. I totally agree with the zombie comment. I’m so not a zombie fan, but most of the other things you mentioned actually draw me to a book. I love that all my bookblog friends have such different tastes. It definitely helps me break out of my reading comfort zone every now and then.

    1. Kendra Kendra says:

I love it too. Even though I don’t like reading these, I will if someone recommends it. I will at least try it. So I’m not completely closed off. šŸ˜‰ But I love that, as book bloggers, we all have different tastes. That’s what makes us cool. šŸ˜€

  4. Hmmm I don’t think there are specific words that just turn me off a book. I would say Zombies but I’m going to read Pride and Predjudice and Zombies next month :p Probably aliens then.

  5. Avatar Carrie says:

i’m with you on aliens, zombies, and vampires/werewolves but I generally like the others šŸ™‚ My TTT
