Top Ten Books Every College Student Should Read

It’s no secret that I’m in college. Majoring in English. And look at my incomplete sentences… 😉 Anyway.

Over the course of college (and high school too), I have been assigned numerous books to read. Many of which, I actually did enjoy after I read them. *gasp* I know, right? So, maybe you should read them too.

*Links lead to Goodreads.

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare. (college)

— I actually really enjoyed this play. I had to watch an old rendition of this play, which was terrible, but we actually compared it to a modern version: She’s The Man. Hilarious movie! Funny play.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. (high school)

— This was one of the few books I enjoyed reading in high school. It has been forever since I read it, so maybe I should pick it up again.

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. (college)

— Many of the tales in here are super funny. I remember one where a woman and her lover, told her husband the world was going to end (Like Noah – God was going to flood the earth). They convinced him to sleep in a boat so they could make love all night long. It is a terrible concept, but the way the story was told was funny. Plus, so many other great tales!

Anthem by Ann Rynd. (high school)

— I remember very little about this book, except for it’s dystopian world. I was so fascinated by this novel. I honestly cannot remember why, but it is in my TBR so I can read it again.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide by Robert Louis Stevenson. (college)

— I never read this book until last year. It’s less than 100 pages and so creepily intense. I knew that they were two different people, but what I didn’t know was why. Read this. Super good.

And… Of course. Last but not least:

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. (high school)

— One thing: it killed me when I realized there was no actual mockingbird. It took me forever to see it, but it’s one of those books that I will carry with me always. Hands down, the best book I read in high school.

What are some of your college/high school reads?
Do we share any?

Definitely read a bunch of these… though strangely not all? I had a weird curriculum I guess.
